Photoshoot Secrets & Vintage Bridal Wear Tips: The fun and flirty short 1950s wedding dresses and veils featured in this styled photoshoot are classic and elegant styles and perfect for brides who are looking for a dresses that are a bit more unique. This style and length of wedding dress was very popular in the 1950s and into the mid 1960s and was influenced by the very feminine fit and flare designs of the famous and historic 1947 Dior ‘New look’.
The pale pink lace wedding dress is one of our favourite ever vintage finds, not only because it’s such a fabulous dress but because it’s a very rare to find a coloured dress from this era. The pink lace has a beautiful floral pattern and its skirt gains its glorious flared shape from its fabulous underskirt which consists of 7 layers of baby pink tulle.
The other dresses we chose for this shoot are a beautiful 1950s lace and tulle short wedding dress and a chic 1950s satin brocade dress which we styled with tulle veils varying in length from short to mid to full length!
Dresses from the 1950s era sadly do tend to fit on the petite side and are a lot smaller than modern dresses, both in terms of height and overall size. This is because of post war rationing and the differences in lifestyle women lived with then compared to now, so we can often only source these wedding dresses in sizes equivalent to modern sizes 2 to approximately size 10. Sometimes though, if we’re very lucky we can find a few size 12’s dating from the 1950s…..but they don’t tend to hang around for long!
