Photoshoot Secrets & Vintage Styling Tips: Elopements and micro weddings are super popular right now and are a perfect choice for relaxed, modern couples who want to do things their way, and get married in intimate and unique celebrations, when they want to!
Photographer Melody loves to shoot elopement and destination weddings, and because vintage fashion allows brides to choose from years of bridal fashions and designs, it’s a perfect choice for brides looking to create a unique look of their own, no matter where they are planning on eloping to, so we thought this would be a great shoot to collaborate on! Working alongside the amazingly talented Scottish Hair & Make Up Artist Suzanne Christie and our models Rachel and Nathan meant this was a fun, creative and inspiring shoot to work on.
The story behind this shoot is all about a cool, fashion conscious couple who’ve decided to have a romantic city based elopement, planned entirely on their own terms. We wanted to dress and style our bride in amazing, timeless vintage pieces, and style each look with a modern edge, so we chose a variety of pieces ranging from the 1950s through to the 1990s from both our bridal and our fashion boutiques.
For our first bridal look in this series, we dressed our bride in a classic and very elegant 1950s satin beaded wedding dress which we styled up with a 1990s leather jacket and chunky modern white boots to create an edgy fashion vibe. For the next look we styled a 1960s gold and cream lace mini dress with a 1960s leopard print faux fur jacket and chunky boots for a fun, flirty, bridal look. Our next look is all about creating an edgy modern feel for our bride and so we styled a 1990s bridal sequin trouser suit with an oversized 1980s denim jacket. And finally, because no one says you have to wear white on your wedding day, we styled a 1960s gold and black lurex shift dress with a 1960s black faux fur coat and colour pop shoes!
These looks are all perfect style inspiration for stylish, modern brides who like to do things on their own terms.
